Rocky Mountain National Park has a number of Cross-Country zones. If you want to really get away from it all or plan on summiting peaks that are away from the trail network these areas may be right for you.

Restrictions

There are restrictions to these Cross-Country zones. These regulations consist of the following:

  • Camp well away from standing dead trees
  • Camp location:
    • you must camp within the zone
    • you must move your camp at least 1 mile every night
    • Maximum of 2 nights in 1 zone
    • at least 200mfeet from water
    • out of sight and sound from trails or other campers
    • must stay out of meadows and below treeline
  • Party size, no more than 7 people
  • No stock is aloud
  • No open fires. Portable stoves only
